Wimbledon! *again?*

July 6th, 2007 by lilnorule

I’m sleepy and I’m a bit shocked right now, because Justine Henin Hardenne (1) lost to Marion Bartoli (18), 6-1, 5-7, 1-6, just now at Wimbledon Ladies’ Single Semi-Final… What a match… World no.1 is beaten by world no.19? Well, nothing is impossible, right? Marion should be proud with this achievement. So, she is through to her first grand slam final and will meet Venus Williams (23) at this year Wimbledon Final.

Okay, on top of that, Novak Djokovic (4) is through to semi-final after defeating Marcos Baghdatis (10) in exactly 5 hours (5 sets). Andy Roddick? I don’t know, his match is still going on (when I write this)… He’s playing against Gasquet. I just hope him to be in the semi-final. If he does, then, the top 4 seeded (men) would all be in the semi-final, including Roger Federer (1) and Rafael Nadal (2).

Again, here, I attached an article about Henin & Bartoli’s match… Taken from www.wimbledon.org

Bartoli Bundles Out Henin in Semi

Friday, 6 July, 2007

France’s Marion Bartoli pulled off the shock result of the tournament as she came back from a set down to beat world number one Justine Henin and reach her first Grand Slam final.

The world number 19, who had never before been past the fourth round of a Grand Slam, hustled and bustled Henin to an incredible 1-6 7-5 6-1 defeat in one hour and 55 minutes.

The 22-year-old, who is coached by her doctor father, was playing her first match on Centre Court, introducing a whole new audience to her very unusual style - hitting double-handed on both forehand and backhand. Both that and her strange service action, with a heavily bent wrist, bothered and eventually destroyed Henin in a tricky, swirling wind after the Belgian had surged through the opening set.

Henin’s progress into the semi-final had been almost regal, with only one set dropped (to Serena Williams in the quarter-finals) and it looked to be continuing as she swept to the first set in just 22 minutes.

But after Bartoli settled any possible Centre Court nerves, her ungainly style, which generates plenty of power, helped her start to unpick the Henin game.

After Henin had broken at the start of the second set, the Frenchwoman hit back to take the Belgian serve and then held following one brilliant exchange of volleys which even had Henin applauding.

Henin’s serenity was jolted when Bartoli’s aggression again brought a service break, leaving the French Open champion trailing 1-3. This was the stuff which had seen off the third seed, Jelena Jankovic, in the fourth round.

But Henin is experienced in such adverse situations and her reaction could not have been more positive. Her raking backhand, the finest in the women’s game, began to zero in on the deepest corners, testing the reach of Bartoli’s unorthodox grip.

Twice more the Bartoli delivery was broken to see Henin into a 4-3 lead, but the Geneva-based Bartoli was not afraid to attack, standing well inside the baseline to receive serve, and was rewarded, to the delight of the Centre Court audience, with another break to pull level at 4-4.

There was even better to follow for the outsider. After fighting off two break points at 5-5 which would have left Justine serving for the match, Bartoli broke Henin to love to level the match.

Things got even better for Bartoli, who is only ranked number three in France, in the third set.

Every shot had Henin scrambling to stay alive, and she was palpably failing to do so. Bartoli raced into a 5-0 lead, winning seven games in succession in front of a disbelieving crowd and an increasingly desperate Henin.

Only once did Henin look like stemming the flood. In the third game she had two break points but Bartoli was not to be stopped on this, her wonder day.

Nicole Vaidisova through to QF

July 3rd, 2007 by lilnorule

I just wanted to congratulate Nicole Vaidisova of Czech Republic for defeating the defending champion, Amelie Mauresmo of France at Wimbledon 4th round, ladies single today… It was a great match!

1 thing I realise for this year’s Wimbledon, most above seeded players lost to players seeded below them… I mean like, for example, 3rd seeded lost to 20th seed, and so forth… hmmm… maybe because of the weather-like. It’s raining everyday and most match, later in the afternoon had to be suspended! Or, it’s just not their luck!

Here, I attached an article about Amelie Mauresmo & Nicole Vaidisova’s match

Mauresmo Angry at Her Play
3rd July 2007

B_09_mauresmo_015_actionimages_m_reganB_09_viadisova_203_propaganda_d_rawcliff

“Everything went wrong today,” said Amelie Mauresmo as she reflected on the loss of her Wimbledon crown after her 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 defeat to Nicole Vaidisova.

It was another disappointing result to add her collection as she tries to get back to full fitness after being felled by appendicitis in March. Mauresmo took two months to get over the appendectomy operation and, since her return to the tour in May, she has struggled with her serve, with her confidence and with her form.

Against Vaidisova, her serve was in tatters – she may have hit 13 aces but she countered them with 14 doubles faults – but the rest of her game was in bits, as well.

"The serve was definitely not working really well today,” Mauresmo said. “I think I had some up and downs throughout the first week, and it showed a little bit more today when you play a better opponent and when it’s a little tighter in terms of score.

"The rest of the game didn’t work very well. Probably confidence. I’m struggling to get the confidence back. That’s probably an explanation to what I produce in terms of tennis today."

The fact of losing the title she held most dear still has not sunk in yet. What irked her immediately after the match was that she had not given a good account of herself and, as a former world No. 1, that was simply not good enough.

"I’m just disappointed about losing this match," she said. "Especially the way I played or I wasn’t able to play today. This is even more frustrating, I think."

Mauresmo has been dogged with the reputation for being a nervous competitor, too nervous for her own good. Before she won the Australian Open and Wimbledon last year, no one gave her a chance of winning a major title because they thought she would have a fit of the vapours on match point.

She proved her doubters wrong and was keen to point out that her current run of dismal results is merely down to the fact that she has forgotten how to win consistently, not that she is too twitchy to win. There is a huge difference between confidence and nerves.

"You never know how you’re going to improve, how you’re going to get the confidence back," she said. "It’s always very little things. Maybe you struggle in these kinds of match, you don’t play well, but you’re still capable of winning the first set, then go past that match, then maybe it gets better.

"It’s always a very few details, a few shots here and there, then the confidence can get back. But unfortunately it was not the case. Sometimes it can go quickly. It’s not happening to me right now."

Mauresmo is an extremely nice woman – polite and courteous, intelligent and thoughtful – but even she was struggling as she faced the press. She was never rude, never tetchy but her patience was tested to the limit.

So, one interrogator began, was she disappointed or very disappointed to have lost her Wimbledon title? Deep breath from Mauresmo (she looked as if she was silently counting to 10). "What do you think?" she said, putting the reporter on the spot and hinting that she rather thought this line of questioning had gone as far as it should.

Undeterred, the reporter went on: "From your face I see disappointed and not very disappointed."

"Well, I’m a good actress then," Mauresmo said with a smile, albeit a forced one. "So are you, yes or no?" the journalist pressed again. "I think I answered that," she said, smiling wanly.

Journalists, alas, never learn. Just when Mauresmo had steered the conversation back to a more relevant topic, another voice piped up at the back: "Last year you were disappointed because you won Wimbledon but everybody was talking about the World Cup…"

This time Mauresmo saw red, in the nicest, politest possible way. "You say that," she said, correcting her questioner. "You said I was disappointed. Don’t start your sentence by, ‘I was disappointed to win Wimbledon.’ That doesn’t sound right to me."

It just about summed up Mauresmo’s day - a French former champion speaking in her second language (and trying really hard not to show her rising frustration), arguing with an Italian journalist who was also speaking in his second language – and arguing about semantics. Nothing was going right for Mauresmo. Oh, well, there is always next year to look forward to.

Cadet Pilot Briefing

June 6th, 2007 by lilnorule

Wo~ it’s been a long time since I wrote my last journal, not including the complaint about Friendster… Well, just to begin my story for today, it is a tiring day, yet an interesting and fun day!

This morning I attend a Cadet Pilot Briefing held by Brunei Shell Petroleum which takes place at The Learning & Development Centre in Seria. We are suppose to be there by 9.30am and I arrive earlier… Well, not too early to say, but around 8.45am… I was curious to know who among my friends were called to attend the briefing… Around 3 minutes later, I saw Qayyimah coming! Yeay… We waited at the outside of the main entrance because it was cold inside… By the time, more of us arrive including 2 guys I met during my Assesment Excerise.

So, we get inside the building around 9.15am. We were told that the event will end around 2.00pm. At 20 past 9, we entered a conference room where the briefing and presentation will be held. Surprisingly, there’s Hong Wan Yun; another friend of mine! Since it’s still early to start, they asked us to go to the Cafeteria to have some tea or coffee and be back around 10 minutes… But, Qayyimah and I went back to the room a bit early and I got the chance to talk to Hjh. Jaitonah (the one who called us). We’ve met before, because she is also the one who called us for the Assesment Excercise and as our so-called instructor for the assesment…. She told me that there were 60++ people she called for the Cadet Pilot Briefing which includes 33 people from the Assesment Excercise before and other 30++ people who apply through Borneo Bulletin. So, that means there are 2 groups. Obviously, we’re the group from the Assesment Excercise… She also told me that currently they only have 1 lady pilot in the company who just depart last week to Aberdeen, Scotland for 2 years. Yeay! Long-live for women!!!

Ok, to cut it short, the briefing starts around 9.35am. There are 4 pilots. Chief Officer - Captain Ahmad, Deputy Chief Officer - Captain Khanan (i think), Captain Ismail (I forgot his post, but as far as I could remember, he handles some training) and a 2nd Officer Ak. Saiful (a freshbie). They made a presentation about SAV, what exactly they do and the training process of the course for the new intake. Like always, at the end of every presentation, there will be a Q&A session. Then, at 12 noon, we had lunch! *BSP always stuff people with foods* Hahahahahahahaha……….

This is the most interesting part of the event. After we had lunch (around 1.00pm), we are taken to Anduki to see the new aircraft; the Sikorsky S-92. There, we are given another short briefing about Anduki by the Head Department; Mr. Jonathan Phillips. Then, we are divided into 2 groups. 1st group (includes me) are taken to the aircraft which worth around USD20 million++, led by Captain Ismail… It is the most modern and advanced aircraft so far. It had 19 passenger seats and you can stand inside the aircraft, because most helicopter/aircraft, you need to bend your back a bit. Hehehehehe… While the 2nd group are taken to the Training Room led by Mr. Jonathan & Ak. Saiful.

Inside the aircraft, we had a chance to sit in the cockpit (2 at a time while Captain Ismail explaining the functions of all the switches and buttons) FUN!!! You can ask anything you want regarding the aircraft, like, how do these buttons work, how to adjust the speed, setting your destination, how to read the information from the digital monitor, ANYTHING! *I’m not sure whether the other asked on how to start the engine, but my partner ani I do asked the question! Yeaaahhh, we know how to start the engine!!!* hahahahahaha (nasib baik nda trabang leh kami tadi) And the most important thing is, we are the first non-shell / non-government who set our foot inside the aircraft. Yeeeehaaaa!!! Proud lah sikit! XD :D

Unfortunately, my handphone sucks!!! the camera doesn’t work, so I don’t take any picture of us inside the aircraft and not even the picture of it! *sigh* (time ani tah ia beulah!!!) but, I like the design of the body… and I realise the colour of the aircraft looks like Brunei’s flag! hehehehehe

According to the schedule, we suppose to finish around 2pm, but we are 1 hour over the time. Because, just in the aircraft, each group took around 45 minutes… hahahaha

Inside the Training Room, we are given a view on how to read the digital monitor found in the cockpit of the aircraft. Basically, the functions lah… And it only took around 5-10 minutes only. So, after that we waited for the 2nd group in a room. Then, when we all gather once again, we are given one last & short speech by Mr. Jonathan.

Finally, we are taken back to LDC and can go home! Fuh~ what a tiring day! Nda terasa hari atu panjang! hihihihi

Ok, peeps… got to go… I need to revise for my Physics.

*sorry for the lame & broken english, haven’t wrote composition / report for a long time… well, this is my blog and I can write whatever I want* XD

See ya! Nyte2

Roger Federer vs Andy Roddick

January 23rd, 2007 by lilnorule

Waaa… Roger Federer will be facing Andy Roddick in the semi-final. Huhu, just like last few weeks. They’d meet each other in the Kooyong Classic final, and Andy Roddick won. Which one will I support to move on to the final? Definitely one of them will go home. Waaa… but, best of luck to both of them. This match will be tough, though. They are strong and got good serve. Too early to judge who will be in the final. But I think the other person who’ll move on is Rafael Nadal. Hehe… Ok…

This is just something to say.
